A Different Approach to Masters Swimming

Masters swimmers do not all train for the same reason. Some want to compete in USMS meets, while others are preparing for a triathlon, an open water race, or a personal endurance challenge. Many simply want to improve their technique, fitness, and confidence in the water.

Train Daly Masters was created to support that range of goals.

Our swimming community includes masters competitors, open water swimmers, triathletes, former competitive athletes, and fitness swimmers. Training may focus on improving stroke efficiency, developing better pacing, preparing for pool competition, increasing endurance, or completing a marathon open water swim.

Train Daly is led by Dan Daly, CSCS, a former collegiate All-American swimmer, strength and conditioning coach, competitive masters swimmer, and experienced open water athlete.

Dan Daly and masters swimming coaches

Dan’s coaching is built around a simple principle: excellence lives in the fundamentals. Instead of applying the same workouts to every swimmer, he considers each athlete’s experience, technique, schedule, training environment, current fitness, and long-term goals.

Train Daly Masters Practices Training

Train Daly Masters is a US Masters Swimming community helping adult swimmers prepare for masters swim meets, open water races, triathlons, and personal endurance goals through individualized coaching and evidence-based training.

While we do not currently offer regularly scheduled weekly masters practices, swimmers can work with Coach Dan in person or remotely through private coaching, small-group sessions, underwater video analysis, EO SwimBETTER performance analysis, customized swim and dryland programming, and monthly subscription training plans.

Training extends beyond workouts alone. Athletes receive guidance in technique development, swim-specific strength and conditioning, race strategy, event planning, pacing, nutrition, recovery, and mindset to arrive at the starting line prepared to perform with confidence. Many Train Daly athletes compete together throughout the season at USMS meets, open water races, and triathlon events under the TDALY club, with Coach Dan frequently racing alongside them.

Swim Coaching and Training Options

Whether you are searching for a masters swim coach in NYC, preparing for an open water event, or looking for more structure in your independent training, Train Daly offers several ways to work toward your goals.

Private Swim Coaching

Individualized one-on-one coaching provides focused attention on your technique, efficiency, conditioning, pacing, and overall performance.

Each session is tailored to the swimmer. You may be working to improve freestyle efficiency, refine another competitive stroke, prepare for a USMS meet, build confidence in the water, or train for an open water or triathlon event.

Private swim coaching is available in Manhattan by appointment.

Underwater Video and Technique Analysis

What you feel while swimming does not always match what is happening above and below the surface.

Underwater video analysis helps identify opportunities to improve body position, propulsion, stroke timing, breathing, and efficiency. You will receive clear feedback, targeted drills, and practical recommendations you can apply during your regular workouts. In-person and virtual analysis options are available.

Dryland Strength and Conditioning

Better swimming is not built in the pool alone.

Swimmer-specific dryland training develops strength, mobility, athleticism, resilience, and power while accounting for the demands swimming places on the shoulders, trunk, hips, and lower body.

Dryland coaching can be used as a standalone service or integrated with swim programming to create a more complete approach to performance.

Open Water and Triathlon Swim Coaching

Open water swimming requires more than pool fitness. Athletes must also develop efficient pacing, navigation, fueling, race awareness, and the ability to adapt to changing conditions.

Train Daly works with swimmers preparing for triathlons, open water races, marathon swims, channel swims, and other endurance challenges.

Coaching may include stroke efficiency, training progression, pacing, fueling, strength work, race strategy, and event-specific preparation.

Custom Swim Programming

Custom swim programming gives you structured training without requiring you to attend a fixed weekly practice.

Your plan is built around your goals, current fitness, available pool time, training schedule, and upcoming events. Programming may include technique work, conditioning sets, pacing guidance, race preparation, wearable data, and ongoing coaching support. This option can be particularly useful for masters swimmers who train independently but still want professional structure and accountability.

Small-Group Swim Coaching

Small-group sessions allow two to four swimmers with similar goals to train together while still receiving individualized instruction and feedback.

This format creates a collaborative training environment without losing the technical attention that swimmers need to make meaningful improvements.

Availability varies, and sessions are arranged by appointment rather than through a recurring weekly masters practice schedule.
